Mirror Spell for Self Love

Self-criticism has a way of becoming the loudest voice in the room, even when it isn't the truest one. The Mirror Spell for Self-Love is a Wiccan ritual that uses reflection - both literal and symbolic - to help you look past that inner critic and reconnect with your own worth. It's a gentle but powerful practice, especially for anyone working to rebuild their relationship with themselves. Here's a basic guide to performing it.

Materials:
  • 1 small mirror or hand mirror

  • 1 pink or white candle (symbolizing self-love, compassion, and purity of intention)

  • Rose quartz, if available (optional, for supporting self-compassion)

  • A small piece of paper and a pen

  • Matches or a lighter

Steps:
Prepare Your Space

Cleanse your space physically and spiritually. Tidy your surroundings, then use incense, sound, or visualisation to clear the energy of the area. Position your mirror somewhere you'll be able to sit comfortably in front of it.

Set Your Intention

On the piece of paper, write down what you're working to release - a specific self-criticism, comparison, or old story you've been carrying about yourself. Be honest and specific. Fold the paper and set it beside the mirror.

Light Your Candle

Place your candle beside the mirror and light it, allowing its glow to soften the reflection. If using rose quartz, hold it in your hand or place it in front of the mirror.

Sit With Your Reflection

Sit facing the mirror and look at yourself directly. This can feel uncomfortable at first - let that be okay. Breathe slowly, and allow yourself to simply be seen, without editing or looking away.

Speak Your Affirmation

Speaking aloud, offer yourself a simple affirmation, such as "I see you. I accept you. You are worthy of love, exactly as you are." Repeat it as many times as feels necessary, allowing the words to settle rather than rushing through them.

Meditation and Visualisation

Continue looking at your reflection, and visualise warmth or light growing around the image you see. Let this replace the critical voice, even briefly. Meditate on this for as long as feels right.

Closing the Spell

Once you feel your intention has been set, let the candle burn out safely on its own if it's small, or extinguish it with the intent to relight it later to continue the spell. Never blow out the candle, as this can disperse your intention - instead, snuff it out or pinch the flame.

Dispose of the Remnants Properly

Once the candle has completely burned out, you can bury the remnants of the wax outside, symbolising this self-love taking root, or dispose of it in a way that feels respectful and significant to your practice. Keep your mirror somewhere meaningful, and consider returning to this ritual whenever the inner critic grows loud again.

Remember, the power of the spell comes from your intention and energy. The materials and ritual steps are there to help you focus and direct that energy - this is a practice you can return to as often as you need, not something to get "right" once.

Also, please always exercise fire safety when working with candles. Never leave a burning candle unattended, and ensure it's placed in a safe location away from flammable objects.
